Catastrophic Health Insurance providers
It`s a well known and accepted fact that a great many people live without health insurance. They may be unemployed or working for an employer that does not offer any form of coverage. They may be unable to justify the cost of purchasing private insurance when there are more pressing financial concerns like monthly expenses or a mortgage. Many of these people are able to cope with the occasional expenses arising from a routine visit to a doctor or a one-time need for medication.
However, in the case of catastrophic illness, these same people could feasibly be financially ruined. Catastrophic illness may include a cancer diagnosis, heart attack or stroke, among others. These illnesses are severe and characterized by lengthy hospital stays, treatments, specialists and recovery periods. In the event that the patient is a family`s major or only breadwinner, being unable to work may put the family in financial jeopardy from which they cannot recover.
Catastrophic health insurance providers offer plans which are frequently called high-deductible insurance plans or, more commonly, major medical. With these plans, the insured agrees to a much higher than standard deductible, ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars. This becomes the medical cost amount up to which the insured is held responsible. While this sounds expensive, it actually represents a cost savings because the insurer is not paying out for routine expenses, thereby lowering the overall health care cost.
